PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Tanplaters has been creating stunning Australiana products for almost 15 years. Our Collections are unique to Australia and to our knowledge we are the only craftspeople in Australia producing a product of this type. Because of the process we use each piece is unique in form and colour and cannot be duplicated. You can be safe in the knowledge that you will purchase a piece from our collection of designs which can never be repeated.

The Australian Eucalypt Collection

This Collection comprises 5 major groups all featuring peices created using leaves and nuts from Australian Native Trees - mainly Eucalypts. Eucalypts dominate the Australian landscape from the tropics through the deserts to the snow. They are a reminder of the amazing diversity of the Australian landscape which has inspired and influenced artists, ordinary everyday Aussies and visitors to our sunny shores.

This collection can be catagorized into 5 major groups.

Jewellery - comprising Earrings utilizing both gold and silver plate findings and a range of brooches

Tableware - comprising exquisite napkin rings and wineware

Gifts and Souvenirs - a great range of useful items to give as gifts when you leave our shores to visit friends and relatives overseas or as a great reminder of your trip 'Down Under'

Fashion Accessories - a range of items to enhance your Aussie wardrobe - truly eye catching pieces

Frames and Inserts - a stunning range of picture frames and ready to mount inserts - all featuring elecroplated gumleaves and nuts

The Australian Coastal Collection

This Collection features jewellery, frames and inserts utilizing seahorses, shells and starfish. All pieces used in this Collection are obtained from either aquaculture or waste. We DO NOT take pieces from the wild for use in The Australian Coastal Collection.

The Silver Series Collection

In this Collection we incorporate shaped leaves with sterling silver to produce a range of jewellery which is both stylish and had a country feel.

PRODUCTION PROCCESS

Our products are created using the real leaves and nuts or marine creatures. We first shape and dry and then seal. In the next stage we cover each piece with a conductive coating which allows us to pass an electric current over the surface of the piece. In doing so we electroplate raw shiny copper onto the piece. The amount of copper depends on what the piece will be used for. If going behind glass in a frame it does not need a thick coating of metal. If being worn or handles it will recieve between 8 - 10 hours of plating.

In the next stage the piece is overcoated with nickel plating, then rinsed and plated again with a top coat of copper. Finally the top coat is oxidised to create the wonderful unique colours and then sealed with two layers of quality lacquer.

Then the crafting into jewellery / gifts  or framing begins. Its very labour intensive - each piece being individually handled to create a piece you will be proud to own.
